I run a nonprofit that also serves as a beautiful wedding location (ceremony and reception). It is a pretty and popular venue that books 1-2 years in advance. Our payment structure is 25% down for deposit, the rest due 3 months in advance of wedding date.

Font - A couple in their upper 20s paid their deposit in May 2020 for a wedding date this past Saturday. They came to the venue several times to take measurements, to meet with our preferred catering vendor, and to show family members the site; at least 5 times after leaving their deposit, as most recently as 4 months ago. They were pleasant and outgoing and no red flags were raised whatsoever during this time.

Font - The three month deadline to pay came and went. We had sent our usual email and mail invoices and past due notices, and our staff had called them four times, spoke with the bride once and the groom once a week apart. Both said the check was in the mail. Never came. We didn't think anything of it at first because there were people on site as we were open to the public as well at that hour, but after a while it became clear that they were practicing walking as wedding parties do. One of our staff went outside to figure out what was going on. I could see

Font - After some shouting by both sets of parents and an uncle maybe, a lot of inconsistently spouted excuses and threats like they could prove the check was mailed and deposited, then it shifted to they tried to call to pay by credit card but no one ever answered the phone, then it became the bride and groom just moved so they don't have a checking account yet, etc. Then came the threats-they were going to drag our name online everywhere, they were going to sue etc. The bride and groom were qu

Font - Another staff member brought out the couples folder and shared with the parents all of our records including the eight past due/cancellation email/mailed notices. After saying about seven times that we had to go back inside and help out our actual paying customers, we finally just walked away. The group stayed outside in the parking lot for another 20 minutes arguing with each other, but eventually left.

Font - I alled our usual caterer, who I already knew had re- booked another gig too, to let her know what happened. She said that she also had not heard a peep from the wedding couple from the time that she canceled their booking. On Saturday (wedding day) I was expecting the worse, like 200 wedding guests pulling up, forcing themselves inside the venue. But not a single person came. I haven't seen any negative reviews online yet, and I have not received any emails. I have no idea what these peo
